Making You Whole Again

Initiating a medical malpractice case

If you believe you have been the victim of medical malpractice in South Carolina, there are steps you can take to claim damages against the offending medical professional. The first thing you should do is contact the necessary parties to make sure you have all the information you need to mount a solid lawsuit.

First, contact a medical malpractice attorney. Though you may not have all the ins and outs of the case worked out yet, an attorney may be able to analyze your situation as it is and help you figure out what to do next. They can also let you know how long you have before the statute of limitations runs out on your case and other vital information.

Once you have an attorney by your side, you will want to contact the doctor whom you believe left you in a worse medical condition. Questions like, “What was your goal with treatment?” and, “Was that goal met?” can provide you with crucial information for your case. Your attorney may recommend other questions to ask as well.

Finally, contact the state licensing board. They can conduct their own investigation into the medical malpractice claim, which may strengthen your argument, whether the case is settled or goes to court.

Once all of that information is gathered, you will likely want to sit down with your attorney again and analyze the different facets of the case. Your attorney may recommend a few different courses of action that could be beneficial for your situation. They can also go over the next steps of the lawsuit process with you.
