Cerebral palsy creates obstacles that last a lifetime

It is every parent's hope that their child will grow up to live a full and rewarding life. And if that child is born healthy, then he or she should have an opportunity to do just that. But if a baby suffers an injury while being delivered, the chances of living a normal life could be greatly diminished.

Babies who develop cerebral palsy due to birth injuries often face extra obstacles throughout their entire lives. They may need therapeutic care and other forms of assistance to help them overcome their challenges. But such aid can be very expensive, meaning parents may need to trace the source of the injury and seek accountability from those who are responsible.

But the first step you must take if you suspect that your baby suffered a brain injury during delivery is to carefully observe his or her behavior. Look for potential signs of trouble, such as if the child is lagging in achieving developmental milestones related to physical movement or strength.

Also, you should have your child evaluated. You can have your baby's APGAR score reviewed. This score is for a test given after the birth of your child that measures important health aspects, including appearance, pulse, and respiration.

If an issue is revealed, you may wish to contact an experienced medical malpractice attorney. An attorney can further investigate the matter and gather evidence of possible negligence on behalf of the healthcare providers involved in the child's birth. Based on the findings, you may consider filing a medical malpractice lawsuit.
