Making You Whole Again

New assisted-living facility in SC to help aging patients

When an individual is sick or elderly, he or she will likely depend on medications to help moderate physical or mental conditions. In this regard, prescribing the wrong medication could mean serious injury or possibly death for the patient.

In the unfortunate event that you or a loved one has been the victim of a medication error by a physician or pharmacist, you may be entitled to compensation. It is important to seek the advice and guidance of a legal professional who can explain your options and who may be able to help you to pursue your civil legal options.

As people age, it is also common that they will have a multitude of medications prescribed. Therefore, we trust in and expect our medical professionals to be mindful of any potential dangerous combination of prescriptions. They should be responsible for their aging patients, and any instance of negligence -- such as failing to check for allergies or to perform blood tests before prescribing new drugs -- may cause significant problems.

The need to avoid making medical mistakes that can severely affect a vulnerable segment of our population may be one of the considerations behind the opening of a new assisted living facility in South Carolina. The facility will be located near a medical building to help the senior population, which reached an estimated almost 66,000 in the local area last year, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Advanced technology will be used to help keep track of those residing at the facility, to carefully monitor their health status as well as the medications they need. In this way, one effect of this technological infusion may be to reduce problems such as medication errors.

Some may see the building of this facility as a reminder of the lack of proper care that many in the area have been provided in the past several years, with older less equipped buildings. Furthermore, this facility will take some time to be completed, and even with its advancements there is still the very real potential for medical errors to take place.
