PAMELA SEACREST: I became a lawyer after practicing nursing for about 20 years, because a lot of times as a nurse I saw patients come into the hospital or into the facility where I was working, especially elderly patients who had been in long-term care facilities who had obviously been neglected or abused. And I felt as though those people needed to have a voice. Generally, the type of cases that I handle are medical malpractice but also nursing home abuse and neglect.
My top priority with the clients is to make them feel as comfortable as possible. In order to do that, I try to make sure that they know what to expect and that I'm going to be there with them from start to finish.
My mantra and what I try to keep foremost in my mind is confidence and conviction comes from preparation and planning. And in order to get ready to go to trial, it takes a lot of preparation. Sometimes we have hundreds and thousands of medical records that we need to read through. By the time I'm ready to do a deposition or ready for trial, I feel as though I've done the best I can and I am confident and ready to roll.
