Myrtle Beach, S.C. –
There are many worth recipients for charitable gifts. But none more so than Brenda Williams. In November 2009, Brenda saw a purse snatching incident in a Kmart parking lot and tried to intervene. In doing so, she was run over by a car and is now paralyzed.
Despite this severe setback, Brenda has kept her positive outlook. She speaks openly of her faith in the Lord and her goal of walking again.
Brenda's inspirational example was recently recognized by WMBF News in its Pass the Cash program. The Myrtle Beach law firm of Furr & Henshaw gave a cash gift of $700 to Brenda at Christmas. The TV station added another $300, for a total gift of $1,000 to a woman whom attorney Fayrell Furr calls a hero.
In Furr's Myrtle Beach law office, employees create a charitable fund every year by pitching in a dollar every Friday for the privilege of wearing jeans. Fayrell Furr then matches their donations. At holiday time, they decide on a worthy recipient for the money.
This year, Furr & Henshaw found that recipient in Brenda Williams. After she was injured, doctors initially gave her only 48 hours to live. She spent almost six months in the hospital and still goes to therapy two times a week. Dealing with paralysis is terribly challenging, but she has kept her faith and a commitment to the goal of walking again. "I want to cry a lot but I don't have time for that," she said. "I [have] to keep rejoicing in the Lord."
Faith like that can move mountains. Brenda's example of service and perseverance truly merit the recognition that WMBF and the Furr & Henshaw law firm have extended to her.
